Several times Mr Dale invited, the senior hoys to lii.s place and gave .lectures and demonst rations. on cuttle and, dairying. .Mr Dale, in mkiiowledging the welcome, said that it was very easy lor him to assist in tile way lie had done, as .several branches ol tanning had become a hobby, with him. Tin; director reported that the typewriting class had been 'most .successful, mid it was hoped that a similar class u mild be run next year, i l was agreed to allow the pupils of the secondary school the use ol the typewriters for the commercial classes. An attempt had been made to form a- class in blade-shearing at the request, of the Mackenzie Comity Council. An instructor had been procured, but only five intending pupils enrol'ed. L'inally some of these hud to withdraw as the pressure of team work, -owing to the late spriiij;, prevented them Ircrn giving tile necessary tilin' to the class. It was decided to endeavour to form classes in dressmaking, ambulance, wool classing, and' typewriting next year. .. The "'o'er:,Ton" of a chairman • for the ensuing year was then proceeded with; and Mr C. J. Talbot was unanimously elected. A special vote of thanks to Mr Wilson (the director) for his year’s worl; was a’so passed unanimously.
A PLEASANT RE-UNION. On 'Friday evening in the Parish Kail the secondary students in the Fairlie .District High School gave a, social re-union, which, proved so great a success that the hope was expressed that it would become an annual affair. The whole of, the arrangements were carried out by the senior girls, with Miss Margaret Craig and Aljss Annie Scott as sccrctarties. A'large number Of ex-pupils were present, find tlie time was speiit in competitions 'of various sorts, with musical items and a. dew speeches. Refreshments were 'both dainty and plenteous, and the pupils made excellent, hostesses.' During the evening Mia-: Craig, on- behalf of her'fellow -students, presented Hie head prefects, Miss -Beulah. Lbbb and Miss Dorothy Koinah. with tokens of their respect and esteem. Miss Lobb thanked the donors in an excellent' -speech,' and said that she with her fellow prefect were' very sorry to sever their -ooniiei* tion with the school. They--had; been happy in their work and asked that, their .successors in office be, given thesain'e consideration as had beeiTThown them. (Miss Craig then presehtod the secondary assistant, Mr Rainey,, with' a suitable gift in recognition of the good work lie had done during theyear, and for the interest lie had taken in his pupils individually.'- They hoped' the. .school would long retain his.services. Mr C. .1. Letters were -f'tce.iyed from various firms and companies ' renewing their anniial yonfrihutions t.o the prize fund of the Society, and a number of private donors also expressed their intention of assisting as before. The president reported that the public eom•m it fee appointed to collect snl»criptions in aid of the Mackenzie; County’s quoin, to the Dunedin Exhibition had raised £75 ..and tiio Mackenzie-County Couneil had subsidised that amount by £25, malting a total of £1(10. Satisfaction was expressed at this result. It was decided to obtain a supply of badges: for the various officers of the Society for Show, Day. A mass of routine correspondence was dealt with, and the schedule was thorougli'v revised and put in order for circulating at- an early date.
