Mr J. Bltchener, M.P., for Waitaki, was in Timaru yesterday. Mr L. 13. Pearson left Timaru for Christchurch yesterday. Professor Shelley, of Canterbury College, came to Timaru yesterday. Mr H. Oram left Timaru yesterday by the first express north. Members of the Railway Board of Management passed through Timaru yesterday. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. W. Nosworlhy) announces that Mr . D. Hunt has been appointed to represent commercial interests on the Daiyy Control Board, in place of Mr J. B. Mac Ewan (resigned.) Mr V. J. Beacroft is in Timaru in connection with a visit of the Australian Silver Band, which will be made early in January. The band will be conducted by Mr A. H. Bade, who led the Newcastle Steel Works Band during their recent tour. At yesterday’s meeting of the Timaru High School Board, the chairman (Mr J. Bitchener, M.P.), wished the members of the Board tiie compliments of the season, and added that no other body with which he was connected had made such progress. Mr li. H. Eraser replied on behalf of the Board. Mr H. Ncvill-Smith, so well known in musical circles in Timaru, and now in Sydney, was the vocalist chosen for the first' performance of tho new Maccabean Repertory Society in Sydney. Four short plays were acted, and Mr Ncvill-Smith sang between the groups of plays and received a very battering reception. Fie was also soloist at the “Women’s Club” convcr*ukime held in November last.
