Butter is very dull, and prices are lower, following on a decline of Danish to 178 s on the cessation of American inquiry. Nominal quotations are: — New Zealand choicest salted, 172 sto 1765; Australian, 166 s to 170 s. Cheese. —Slow; New Zealand, 105 s to 100 s. PRODUCE MARKET STAGNANT. Hr TWe-rr#l>!> —Press association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. The grain and produce market is dull to the point of deadness, and there is little chance of a revival until after the holidays.. There is a little interest in forward oats, which arc quoted at 4s 6d for April-Septembcr for A grade, and 4s 2d to* 4s 4d for B.' However, business is negligible. ... , , Potatoes are discussed with a shade of business occurring at £6 for Aprildelivery, f.0.b.5.i., and £5 10s for April-June. There is no other class of produce in regard to which prices or the demand have altered since last report.

LONDON WOOL SALES

The. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile \genev Co. have received the following cable from London, under date 16th Instant: — • London wool sale—As compared with last sale’s closing vales, prices are 5 to Ti- per cent, lower for scoured merino super, fine greasy crossbred; par to 5 per cent, lower merino and crossbred lambs, greasy merino super, scoured crossbred; 5 per cent, lower medium greasy crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred ; 74 to 10 ner cent, lower medium merino ;* and 10' to 15 per cent, lower for inferior merino, and about the same for crossbred slipc. The sales closed with fairly firm tone. The prices realised for average to super grades of description were as follows : —Merino, super 26d to 28d : merino, nvei-.mc 18d to 23d, 56-58’s 18d to 21 cl, 50-56’s 16d to 10d. 48-50’s 15cl to 17d, 46-48’s 14d to 15}d. 44-46’s 1 D.Vcl to 15d. 40-44’s 13d to 141 cl, 3.6-40’s 12*d to 14d.

DAIRY PRODUCE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. have received the following cable from _ their London house, under date 16th instant:— New Zeal rad Dairy Produce. —New Zealand butter, choicest 174 s to 1765; Australian 170 s; Danish 186 s. Cheese. —10-ls per cwt; market slow.

Tallow. —Fine mutton 47s 3d per owt., good beef 45s per cwt., mixed 42s 6d per cwt.; quotations, more or less nominal.
