'WELLINGTON, December 18. 1 A spring scale with a pointer _ which fell olf, a7ul a face tied on with a. string was an exhibit on the strength of which Leonard Cook, who had it in a. butcher’s delivery cart, was fined £5 for a breach of the Weights and Measures Act. The inspector said it was the worst scale lie had ever encountered. It showed lib when there was nothing in the pan’ and was Hb over weight up to 6ib, over that it showed several ounces under weight. The defendant-said he had never used it to- weigh meat in the ordinary way, but it was carried to settle arguments when customers questioned the weight of tlieir purchases. _____
