Saturday night proved to be a real “red letter night’' in the history ot the Scottish Society. A contingent ot between 40 and 50 members ot the Scottish Society of North Otago journeyed to Timaru to pay a fraternal visit The visiters were entertained to tea bv Chief Kinlock of the Timaru Society ‘at the Wentworth, the proprietor of which provided an excellent repast. At the Unitarian Hall at eight o’clock the local . Society held its monthly concert (instead of on 'llnivsdav next), and the visitors provided the programme. Chief Kinlock extended a cordial welcome to Chief It. B. Meek. ex-Cbief Miller, and the members of the visiting Society, and expressed the intention of the Timaru Society to return the visit early in the Now tear. He also invited the Oamaruvians to visit Timaru again. Chief Meek briefly responded on behalf of bis Society, and was then duly installed into the chair and took charge of the meeting. A programme of exceptional merit was then provided, every item of which was enthusiastically encored ; indeed, in some cases the performers hnd to respond with a third item before the audience was satisfied. Songs were rendered bv Miss E. Denholm, Miss Tv. Allan. Miss M. Allan, Mrs Owen, Mr C. James, Mr IT. .J. ■ Winklev and Mr Neill; duets by M 'sses K. and M. Allan: recitations bv Mrs Bom'© and Mr C. James: violin solo bv Air TO .T. Meldnim : and dances by ' Arises K McilDo" N. ]Vwi ß las. E. Stamford, and P. Miller. Pipers Jackman and Stevenson played the introductory item, and the former supplied excellent music for +he National dances by the juveniles.
