Match Against Victoria.

Victorians’ First Innings. Hendrv and Ellis, the Saturday not out men, faced Douglas and Gilligan. The latter was making pace off the wicket. Hendry played aggressively, but Ellis was barracked when he tailed to run for a'single. Then lie opened his account with a single and Lour off Douglas. Hearne replaced Gilligan, and Ellis drove him to the boundaiy and again for two. Woolley came on to bowl, when the score was 76. Hearne was proving expensive, but was persevered with, and Ellis was punishing him, though the fieldsmen were saving runs. Then Freeman easily caught Ellis at square le«r. Hendry was now in the forties. Woodfull succeeded Ellis, and cut Hearne for two. Hendry was cheered on reaching fifty. Hendren, in the slips missed Hendry, who then pulled Freeman to the fence. The latter had his revenge, when Hendry was out leg. before, after batting 168 minutes, during which lie hit three boundaries. Just before the adjournment, Ivilner, at leg, caught Woodfull. Ponsford. waa given an ovation when he went in. Hendren in the slips missed him when lie was one. Ryder had a short but bright innings. Woolley, bowling tlie off theory, was dangerous, but the crowd was sympathetic when .Whysall smartly stumped Ryder. Hartkonf had a shortlived stay, being dismissed by Lwman, who had taken three .wir'k'Ls for fourteen. Tarrant’s score included a scjiunv' for four oft >VooJlev. whom Liddicut also drove to the pickets. , Tarrant ,at, thirty-three was nearly run out. Liddicutt banged Woolley rotfive. Tarrant made a plucky stnuu. hit.tine- >hree fours. His ; partnership with Liddicut produced sixty-two.

England’s Second Effort. Hobbs and Sandham opened England’s second knock, to the bowling of Wallace and Ryder. Hobbs gave a spectacular display. Hendry_m the slips dropped Sandham off Hartkopr. Hobbs’s timing was excellent. Love was substituted for Ryder, who injured his side. Sandham should have been run out at seventeen. 1 arrant got Hobbs leg before in his first ovei At the call of time England luid lost two wickets for 83. Following are the scores:
