HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthlv meeting of the Timam High School Board of Governors was held yesterday. Present —Mr L- JMcGregor (acting chairman), Mrs Jill. Low, Messrs H. H. Fraser, F Lyons, W. D. Revel I, J. Maze, ROrwin, L. S. Talbot, and Command G. Dennistoun. RECTOR'S REPORT. The Rector (Mr W. Thomas. M.Aj, reported that the examinations were to commence to-morrow, with tho senior scholarship examination, and would continue until December 11. the majority of pupils in the senior school were sitting for some examination. Old boys of the school iiad been particularly successful in the examinations at Canterbury College and Otago university. At the former institution twelve prizes were won by ex-pupils oi the school. It was agreed that Tie date suggested by the Rector for ’‘Speech Night ■ be approved. , The chairman congratulated the ole. boys on their successes in examinations, jut regietted that of the two old boys nominated lor the Rhodes Scholarship, the School was not fortunate enough to have a representative chosen.
LADY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT. The Lady Principal (Miss J. it. Barr) reported that the property in riout ot the Girls’ .Hostel was for sale. She understood that arrangements had been made to sell it by auction, and suggested that it be secured, as it would make a good preparatory school. CORRESPONDENCE. The Education Department wrote advising that the Board s application. subsidies amounting to £IOO t.au been granted as follows: —Books £st). ■■•■uina courts £SO, ground improvements £OO. Mr E. S. Craven wrote thamang the Board for its letter of congratulation on his being nominated as a candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship. Mr \V. J. Scott also wrote thanking the Board for the congratulations extended to him on his nomination for the Rhodes Scholarship. H. Allchureh and Co., wrote on behalf of Mrs McArthur, offering the Board her house and section which adjoins the Girls’ Hostel in Hassali Street." . The matter was discussed in committee. GENERAL. The Steward of Reserves reported having visited the Board’s property at'Waitohi, where everything was progressing satisfactorily. . ’. The Finance Committee reported in detail on various ihatters dealt with during the month. The proposed alterations to the regulations affecting ! secondary schools had been carefully, discussed and were approved. „ The regulations in regard to part-time teachers were ;ilso dealt with and approved of, with the exception that the achedule of payment was not sufficiently erous to girls’ schools the size of !i-
