Charlotte Leonard, 40 years, vas charged at the Police Court at Auckland on Saturday, with the thelt of goods valued at £4O 12s 9d from sixteen different shops. She was caught ifi the act at ltendell’s drapery. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on cue charge. On another sho was placed on probation for two years. Accused had £IOO in the bank, and her hubhund had more than £SOO in cash. The latter was known as a man of good character. A servioe for Masons was held ifi St. Mary’s Church, Wellington, yesterday afternoon. A large and representative gathering included the Governor-General (Grand Master) who. read one of the lessons, while the other was read by the Rev. J. 1L Sykes, Past Grand Chaplain. The Dean of Nelson (Ve’ry Rev. C. P. Askew) preached an appropriate sermon from the text, “Tear God, Honour the King, Love Thy Brethren.” The service was held to commemorate the signing of tho armistice six_ years ago, and in memory more especially of the men of the Order who fell in the Great War.—(Press Association.)
