RENT STRIKE.
STARTLING DEVELOPMENT ON CLYDESIDE. by Cable—Press Ass nation —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 8.30 p.m., November 14.) LONDON, November 13. - The Clydeside rent strike has taken a complicated turn.
The Sheriff, by a surpriso raid, in the absence of the tenants’ scouts on Wednesday, carried out seven evictions.
Sympathisers, during the night, restored six occupants, with the whole of their belongings. The owners of the premises have now begun proceedings for house breaking. Meanwhile the tenants have organised a brigade ol cyclist scouts to frustrate further attempts at eviction.

FURTHER EVICTIONS PROPOSED

The Glasgow correspondent of the “Daily Herald” reports that the landlords aro angry over the evictions. 'They intend to secure further evictions. One landlord is represented as saving: “The Government is behind us. The pooplo must pay or quit.”
The Rent Tribunal instituted through the efforts of Mr David Kirkwood (Labour M.P.) broke down f.s the result of the landlords’ insistence upon postwar rents, which the tenants maintain cannot bo paid out of
current wages. A special meeting of the City Council lias been summoned lor to-day.
