MODERN MILLINERY Decidedlv quaint are the majority of the hats worn by the best-dressed women, There is a curious preference for close-fitting hats of curious designs which are inspired by jockey caps and aviator’s helmets. The close-htting helmet is very trying, but it is also but it is also very lasiitollable; no luiir at all shows undei the brim. borne of the more exaggerated helmet niodels have side-flaps that completely cover the ears, but as a rule they are simply large, bowl-shapes with a tiny brim that makes a shade tor the eyes while at the hack they are slightly turned' up. Very beautiful embroideries are introduced on these models —deads, fine straw, and silks cunningly mixed. If the embroidery on the crown is really good no oilier trimming is needed ; the bat will score a success because of its unusual shape and original material. The latest jockey caps are made in melon-like sections, the seam of each being sewn over with metallic threads or embroidery silks. A fascinating little jockey model was made of dark blue stain and dark blue suede, the narrow brim lined witli carnation-red straw and a straw hand encircling the crown. With the., new close-fitting hats, gloves to match are now supplied. A helmet toque of brilliant green kid, ornamented with black silk threads, will bo accompanied by gauntlets of the same material and trimmed with the same stitehcr.v as that appearing on the lint. Striking colour notes are added to a sombre-lined toilette by the wearing of a scarlet-toque ami gloves.
