REFEREES FOR TOURNAMENT.
The Referees Association has made the following allocation of its members for the seven-a-side tournament on Monday next:— Athletic Grounds (start 9.30). — Messrs P. F. Cosgrove, Phillips, G. Taylor, D. Marshall, W. Mcßeath, D. Clarke, J. H. Grover, J. Harley, W. Andrews, Thompson, P. Whisker, A. Pratt. Caledonian Ground (begin 10 a.m.) —Messrs J. O’Leary, W. Cum-, ming, P. Mulvey, W. Davey, G. Glover," and Burgess. SCHOOLS GAME POSTPONED. Owing to the indisposition of two members of the Main School team, the primary schools game between Main and Waimataitai, arranged to be played at the Athletic Grounds to-day,- has been postponed. THE TOURNAMENT. The South Canterbury Union’s annual seven-a-side, it is confidently claimed, is the premier affair of its kind in the Dominion, and public interest in the game is now so keen that only fine weather is necessary to assure the success of next Monday’s.event. To an entry of 71 teams the largest club contributions are made by Star and Old Boys, who have each nominated seven teams. Temuka come next with six, and High School with five. Ashburton County is responsible for eight “sevens,” Waimate Sub-Union for five, and the Mackenzie for half a dozen. Altogether sixty-seven games are scheduled, and three grounds will be occupied—two at the Athletic Grounds and one at the Caledonian Ground. The first matches at the /; Athletic Grounds are timed to begin at 9.30 sharp, and the opening match on the Caledonian Ground is set down for 10 a.m. If play proceeds according to schedule the proceedings at the Athletic Ground will conclude at 1 o’clock, "when the surviving ■teams will be transferred to the Caledonian Ground, rvhere the semifinals and finals w r ill be decided. Spectators who pay for admission at the Athletic Grounds will be able to obtain passes which will admit at any time to the Caledonian Ground. Special train arrangements have been made for the convenience of country players and visitors. The evening train for Oamaru will leave at 4.40 and pick up passengers at the Caledonian siding; the Fairlie train will start at 4.45, and the Ashburton train at 5 o’clock.
