The Ku Klux Xian again comes prominently into the news, following on the passage of a law by the New York State Legislature requiring the Xian to publish its membership anu forbidding meetings of masked persons. The organisation issued a statement threatening Governor Al. E. Smith who signed the law with political extinction and proceeded to hold meetings in various parts of tht. State. At these gatherings, which were guarded by armed men and lighted b> huge flaming crosses, thousands or new members, all masked, and robect were initiated. The Xian defies the Governor to enforce the law, saying it will never publish its membership. Smith states that steps will be taken to suppress violaters of the new law. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
