FACULTY SPORTS VARSITY MEN PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM DUNEDIN, Saturday. The annual inter faculty . sports meeting promoted by the Otago University Amateur Athletic Club was held on Saturday. The weather was fine; but a strong cold wind prevailed. The ground was heavy, which militated against fast times being re-’ corded. Some surprises were, however/in store for the spectators, and some very fine performances were registered. $ In the first sprint event (100 yards championship), A. E. Porritt put up a remarkably good performance, covering the distance in 10 l-ssecs, and reducing the record held by himself and R. L. Christie by 2-5 of a seo. Another fine performance was recorded in the 120 hurdles champion, ship. The race resolved itself into a desperate struggle between Porritt and Morgan, the former securing the verdict by nearly half a a yard. The time for this raco was 16 secs, so that tho record of 16 3-ssecs, established by H. Buck in 1913, was eclipsed by 3-5 th of a sec. Porritt followed this up liy creating a now record in the 220 yards championship. The raco was Between' Porritt and Morgan all the way, the former winning by a very narrow margin. The time was 23 3-5 secs., or 4-sth of a sec below the record established by S. T. Bass, as long ago as 1910. The next event in which a new record was created was the high jump championship, in which G. R. Kingston cleared sft. 6m. j heating tho record of sft. sin.,- put up by J. H. Waddell in 1915. Yet another record was broken during, the afternoon, J. B. Mcliiken completing he 440 yards hurdles championship course in 63secs, which is 2 1-5 secs faster than tho record achieved by himself last year. The inter ‘ faculty shield was won by Senior Medical. 38 points, Arts 32, Junior Medical 24, Law 11, Commerce 3, Dental 0.
