The bye-election at Edgehill (Liverpool) resulted: Hayes (Labour) 10300 Hills (O) 9250 Mr Hayes is general secretary of the Police Prison * Officers’ Union, and, was prominent in the London war-time police strike. Papers of all shades of opinion emphasise the sensation of his vie--1 tory, following other Government defeats.
