Mr C. Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Steani Ship Company,' is at present in Timaru. Sir John McFarland, Chancellor of the Melbourne University, is spending some time fishing in West Southland. Baron D. Dickson, of 'Gothenburg, Sweden, who is touring Now. Zealand, intends spending several weeks fishing at Russell before returning to Sweden. Mr E. M. Marryatt, of Wellington, will succeed Mr A. Elliot as superintendent of telegraphs in the Palmerston Post Office. Sergeant Flannagan, who is now stationed in the Auckland district, is spending his annual leave at his home in Timaru. . Mr L. W. McCaskill, of Timaru, has accepted a relieving position on the staff of Wanganui College for the first .term of this year. Mr McCaskill is a former pupil of the Timaru Boys’ High School. Mr L. M. Isitt,. M.P., is at present staying in Temuka. and is the guest of Mr E. Brown, “Dinting House.” Mr Isitt, who is the vice-president of the Methodist Conference, will conduct the evening- service at the Methodist Church, King Street, Temuka, tomorrow. Father Lean, who has been for many years on the West Coast, has been appointed to the Rangiora parish in place of the late Dean Hyland. Mr F. W. O’Connor, of Christchurch, has been transferred to Palmerston North to talc© up the position of railway ticket inspector, vice Mr J. Stone, who is retiring on superannuation. Mrs W. T. Leggett, Epsom, Auckland, who is spending a holiday with her ’Barents, Mr and Mrs E. Story, Temuka, has received word that'her son, Mr O. T. Leggett, a student of Auckland Grammar School, has passed his matriculation examination. Mr P. B. Foote, of tho Perpetual Trustees .Company, Ltd., Dunedin, will proceed to Timaru at the end of the month to take up tho position of district manager of the Company’s South Can- ■ terburv branch. Mr A. Ibbotson, who .has represented the Company at Timaru for upwards of two years,, will return to-tho head office, Dunedin, next week. At the Bay last evening Mr Marshall, on behalf of the tennis players, presented a pipe in case, and tobacco, to Mr Roberts, the retiring caretaker, and in 4oing so referred to the many sterling qualities of the recipient. Mr Roberts suitably reolied and’thanked the donors very heartily.
