THE MAYORALTY.
MR ROLLESTON RETIRING.
OR. CHILES A CANDIDATE. Mr F. J. Rollcston’s term of office as Mayor of Tiinaru expires in April next, and as he had made it known that he will not again ho a candidate for the Mayoralty there is some speculation as to who anil be the next Mayor of Timaru. A “Herald” reporter made some inquiries on the subject, and learned that the Deputy Mayor (Cr. J. E. Chiles) has been asked to offer his services as Mayor. When waited on yesterday and asked whether ho would bo a candidate for the position Cr. Chiles said ho had been asked to do so by influential citizens, and ho had decided to comply with the request. The reporter also learned that though Mr Eolleston will not again stand for the Mayoralty he will he a candidate for a seat on the Borough Council.
