PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
MACKENZINE COUNTY. The, annual meeting of the Mackenzie County Presbyterian - Church, was held at Fairlie on August 24, when the Rev. A. C. AV. Standage M.A., the minister, presided. Mr Isitt Clerk), read the Session report. This stated that the year jus* closed had been, one of quiet progress in church affairs in this parish. .Besides the former workers who still continue to take an interest in tliie welfare of the church, the ranks had been augmented by now arrivals who had thrown themselves into the various tranches of the work. The attendance at public worship was good both at Fairlie and the various outside preaching pieces. The Minister's work was much appreciated, and he and his wife were the trusted friends of j all. 2o names had been added to the roll, which made the total now stand at 137. It bad been decided owing to the distance it lies from the centre to i hold a communion service at Skipton twice a year. Reference was made to thtt good work of the organisations associated with the church, and thanks were recorded to all who had in aay way assisted during the year. The Minister, speaking to the report, stressed the good which would result from periodical communion sori vices in -distant out-stations. He thanked Messrs Isitt, Whatman and Len- ' non for their services as lay readers, | and also all who hiad assisted to work I so well and harmoniously together dur- | ing the year. Mr J. McLean, treasurer, read his report, which disclosed a credit balance of £177, as against £ll6 last year. Mr McLean, in moving the adoption of the report, said that whilst the result was. good, he felt that such a productive county could do better and he called on the people for even bettor results next year.
Mr D. L. Keay, secretary, read the rt.-porl of the Committee of Management. It mentioned that the committee had decided to raise the Minister's salary by £SO, and hig car allowance by £25. They wished to place on record Mr AY. H. Cook's (who had retired during the year) services as treasurer for six years, and thanked !.hie ladies for their work in connection '.'.'itli the Mower Show.
Hr Keny moved, and Mr Macintosh seconded, the adoption of the report, which was unanimously carried. Ri'v. Standage -returned thanks for ifce raising of his salary aud car allowance, but wishled it distinctly understood, that should the! increase at anv time prove a hardship, he would wish it revised.
Mr Cowan read the Sabbath School report, and stressed the necessity for more accommodation at Fairlie, as the school was much over-crowded, and mtire teachers were required as the schcml- was growing yery fast. Ik-iVrence was made to the system of prize-giving by private subscriptions. i\ir Lennon moved, Mr Hammond seconded that the church finance the Sabbath Schools at FairYis, Ashwick Flat and Sherwood. Hie following were elected to the Management Committee:—Mrs Trotter, MesSrs L. J McGregor, J. Gasfcey -T. Davidson, J McKay, Wilson, Peebles, Pollock, B. Robertson, J. Hudd. It was decided that a building fund scheme be gone on with. A hearty vote of -tHianks was passed to the Rev. and Mrs Standage for their work during the year.
