AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Aasociatiou). AUCKLAND, May 31. At tho Farmers' Union Conference yesterday, remits dealing with tile mona-ce of the meat trust were adopted hk fo.lows:— "That in view of the meat trust meiiaaa, jfc shall be illegal for any freezing works to be sold except with the sanction of the Government, sanction] for sale to he given only after it is proved that the purchaser is in no way noting for or connected with the Meat Trust, the onus of proof 'to. rest upon, the purchaser. "That the Government be requestad to ?re that legislation is provided at tlia next session of Parliament «*.-n the seven heads as reeomme<nded by the Parliamentary Committee, in oitler to kerp meat, and fihipping trusts from operating n Now Zealand." A proposal that a dominion memorial for soldiers who fell in the war should take tho form of a highway from the far north to Invnreargi!!, was adopted. Remits that special inducement? should be offered ti qualified men to take up the teaching profession in Stite schools, and that better facilities should l be given to backblock settlers for ge'ting schools and good teachers were adopted.
Rj'm'ts carried dealing with the necessity for providing financial provis;on for settflers to develop their holdin e\s., included a recommenidialoion thai the Government should ho urged to vote largJ sums to the Advances tloi Settlers .Department, and that a Stat© agr-eu.tural bank should bi established by the Government. A remit by tihe Provincial Executive ■expressing dissatisfaction with the railway administration ' and emph'as.sing that the Government should adopt a more progressive policy both with regard to tlhe pushing on of new railways and the adoption of more up-to-date methods of administration, so that the needs and conveniences of tlie public should receive more was adopted. A remi'fc pass?d at the last conference that farmers should o«'n thoir own ships/ and ev<"ntual!'y disposo of their owin produce, was reaffirmed.
The conference afso carried a remitJ thalt till© Government should bo urjred to relinquish tJlie requisition! of New Zealand produce at as early a d:it:> as possible. The conference is concluded. Mr J. Brodde was rs-e'ecti'd president.
