MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

t A. meeting thi3 committee of tlia Tvinaru Treating Club was held lasn wglit. Present—Messrs J. Hole, president (in tu© chair), H. F. Morton, W. Cookson, F. J. Torrie, W. -Scarf, J. Y\ T , Stockdaie, A. F. S totter, and .W. i^uirk. • The president congratulated the Club on the success of their last meeting. The weather had favoured them; all tbe arrangements were excellent, and visiters and others had exppresscd tiheir entire satisfaction with, the .way tlia Club were catering for trotting in Soutli Canterbury. If only they could get a two-days' meeting, it would be one of the inosb popular fixtures in the Dcm minion. The Ground Committee had done their work specially we'll, with the result that the track was perfect. Credit was also due to the secretary (Sir H. H. Praser), for the 1 xceiilent way he had carried out his work. The Club were now on a thoroughly sound financial basis, and if i't were thought advise able the stakes could be increased for next meeting. The Minister for Lands advised thatj Mr John Hiaie and Mr Walter Baxter had been appointed to fi.il two vacancies on the Board of Trustees of the Timaru Racecourse. This was considered very satisfactory, and Mr Hole was congratulated on his appointment. Mr Nimmo Scott wrote resigning his membership as he had left the district, A letter was received from Sir Gould, .who acted as detective at the last, trotting meeting, forwarding the name of a main, whom he had warned off the course, and stated that if t'iie Club '.visited to prosecute him, plenty of witnesses coud be obtained to support 'a> prosecution for failing to leave th? 1 course after having been warned do so.

Aii application was received from St* Julia Ambulance asking for a subscription to their funds. —£15 os was granted, very complimentary \ remarks btfing made concerning the work of tiie Ambulance Association. It was decided to nominate Mr W. Quirk for a seat on tlie Board of tino New Zealand Trotting Association. A letter was received ■ from the Trotting Association stating that at tka Conference the question as to the best) method of starting would he discussed. It had been suggested that the yard system should bs given a trial. Ah animated discussion took place oiii the matter. It was said that this Club had had no experience of .the yard system, and consequently could not express an authoritative opinion upon it., It was also saifl that the second system of starting had proved quite satisfactory, and that the question was one which should be left to owners and trainers rather than to the Trotting Clubs or the Trotting Association.

It was finally decided that the Club's delegate should be given a free Laud at the Conference. The secretary was appointed the: Club's del'egalte to flie annual enee of the Trotting Association to bsf held in Wellington early in July. A statement of receipts and expends Hire. was furnished in connection witlj the late trotting meeting at Wash dyke. Balance £2OO. This was considered very satisfactory, and the balance sheet ■was adopted. A discussion took place as to -whether the Club should buy and equip a ('(;nr?o of their own, but it was decided 1q take no action in the matter ini tho • meantime. • ■ The matter cf investing; £3OO, surplus fußids, was left to the chairman, secretary and Air IMbrton. It was decided to give a bonus of £3 3s to the ground caretaker (Mr T.
