TEMUKA TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
MEETING OF MANAGERS. The monthly meeting of the Board of Managers of the Temuka Technical School was held on Tuesday evening. Present —Messrs G. B. Cartwright (chairman), C. J. Bilton, E. B. Cooper, P. A. Acbeson, J. Bambridge, J. J. Ellis, G. W. Armitage, and jthe Director, Mr J. T. Smart. Apologies were received from Messrs E. Saunders and A. Frew. The chairman stated that no new classes had been started since last meeting. There had been a fair inquiry for the motor class, but as MiMartin, the instructor, had accepted a position as motor bus engineer in Timaru his services, unfortunately, would not be available this year. Mr Guthrie, the dairying instructor, would begin next Monday with his class, and Mr Edmonds, a capable instructor had been secured for the carpentry class. The bee-keeping and the poultry keeping class would begin later on. The prospects for all the classes were very good. The Director said that he had interviewed Mr Martin, who said he may be able to take the class next year,, but in the meantime he would,try ,arid find a substitute and let the school have the use of his notes. It was agreed to thank Mr Martin for past services, and also for his present; kind offers'. ..' Among the correspondence'dealt with was a communication from the Director of Technical Education on compulsory education at .technical' classes, and also giving a list of schools where it has already been adopted; The Director pointed out that any action taken in this matter must emanate from the District H'gh Softool Committee. lb was resolved: "That ths -regulations dealing with the attendance at Technical classes be forwarded to the District High School.Committee with a recommendation that they advise the authorities to enforce the compulsory clauses of the Act throughout the Dominion." Mr J. Bambridge for the visitors (Messrs Bambridge and Bilton) reported that they had visited the wool class and found everything going- on splendidly. Tbey had also visited the dressmaking class, and found everything satisfactory, all the girls being very busy. Mr Bambridge suggested that a gas iron should be installed for the use of this class.—After discussion it was decided to get an estimate as to cost. The visitors, were thanked for their report, which was adopted, and Messrs Cartwright and Cooper were appointed visitors for the ensuing month.
