Defendant admitted being in a hotel, but saud ho had not obtained any liquor. He had gone in for a good purpose. The Magistrate: You went in for a glass of beer j this is the first time I have heard a glass of beer called a good purpose. You are an old age pensioner, and I hardly know what to do with you. You will be convicted and let off without otlier punishment this- time, but if you come up again, you will be sent away for three months. Defendant was profuse in his thanks. H. L. Wearing was charged with being twelve months in arrears jwith payments t 0 his wife under "a maintenance order. Mr Raymond appeared for the defendant, and Mr Emslie for Mrs Wearing. Mr Emslie said that Mrs Wearing was unable to era her own living; sfhe had herself and her child to keep and had applied to the Charitable Aid Board for heip. He asked for a substantial order.

H. L. Wearing, labourer, said that his health' was not good, having been severely burned when working in the Mackenzie country. He had only earned £lB since March 3 last. He had beeu sent to the Hospital).in December last, and did lidfc come out until March.

The case was adjournisd for a week to enable Mr Emslie to get particulars of defendant's earnings. E. Madden was fined 10s and costs for failing to register his motor bicycle. 11. A.
