CARGO SHEDS ON THE WHARF.
LETTER TOv THE MINISTER OF RAILWAYS.
The committee set up by the Timaru Harbour Bosftd to consider the question of erecting cargo sheds on the wharf have despatched Una following letter to the General Manager of the New Zea- , land Railways:— Thfe proposed erection of these sneas has bean held up for some tirtue past owing to the unfavourable conditions prevailing. You will remember by referenoe to previous correspondence that, while the Board was sympathetic towards the erection of tihte sheds, there were still some important details in connection with the scheme to be settled as between the Board and the Railway Department. The matter has now; again been brought into prominence by the deputation! from Timaru ' which recently waited on you in Wiellimgton, and it is felt by the Board tli at it will be inadvisable to postpone consideration of the question any i longer. If all the derails of the proposed scheme could be settled now, then the way would be cleared for immediate action as soon as eircumstances warranted it. The special committee appointed by. the Board to deal with the matter has decided to ask for the favour of a personal interview with yourself and the officers of your Department who would be concerned with the working of the scheme, so that the various points about which there now is some doubt, might be elucidated. With this end in view would you be kind enough to say whetMer you are likely to be in, or passing through Timaru in the near future, and if so whether you_ could meet the members of the committee? So far no reply has boon received to jJJiis letter*
