(Miller's Flat). INVALIDS RETURN. WELLINGTON. Dec. 28. A hospital ship has arivod at a port in New Zealand with 547 returned soldiers, including 2n officers. There are 83 cot <v\ses. Two men are totally blind. There are: ten mental cases, and ahigh pnonortion of limb cases, though aU were fitted wi rlh artificial limbs in England. Two privates died on the voyage—W. T. Webb, of PalmeTsfton North, and J. T. M'Caw. of Waitahuna. ANOTHER DRAFT SHORTLY. The Base Records office advises that a- transport carrying another draft of returning soldiers is expected tr> reach Aurkland about January 5. Wellington about the 7th, the Bth, Tand Port Chalmers the 9th. Trooper F. S. Smith, son of Mr and Mnsi T. J. Smith of Smithfield, arrived j home .on Christinas Day invalided from j the front. Private Smith left with this 12fch Reinforcements, took part in the i decisive batlde for Gaza, and was in almost ■ every engagement on the Egyptian front, and in numberless skirmishes. He was slightly wounded twice, and returned to the 'troop, but eventually w'as invalided. The name 'of Private J. E. Ryder, Timaru, appears in an official hospital report as having been removed 'from the dangerously ill list. Laaice-Coroporal W. W. Blair (killed) was a son of Mrs Blair, of 6 Harper Streeit, Timaru. He went through the South African war, but again responded to the call of Empire, leaving with the loth Reinforcements. Before leaving Lance-Corporal Blair was hoadsfcoreman elf the North O-'aao Farmers' Co-op. He was a member of thei lodge' 1.0.0. F., and (also of the Highland Pine Band. Mrs K. Sullivan, North Belt, Temuka, has received word from her husband. Private J. Sullivan who left with the 22nd Reinforcements, 'thhit he had benn, in hospital in France and England suffering from honchitis. Tn October he was given leave and paid a visit to Kularney in Ireland. He spent a vefry pleasant time among the beautiful lakes and mountains of tha.b district. Mr and Mrs Turner, of Geraldine, have received word that their son David, who has been- invalided 'home from ithtei front, ia expected to reach New Zealand on the 7th Jnnnary. They have also received a cable from another son, Trooper James Turner, dispatched from Palestine, wishing theni a Happy Christmas, and reporting 'all well. Mr, George Davey, Main Road, Temuka, has received a report from the Base Records th'alc his_ son. Private Ainbhur Davey, was admitted to hospital in France on December 4, with gunshot wound! in hvSt let- Private Davey leflc with the 27th Reinforoements. Mrs Stickings, Pleasant Point, _ has received word that her son, William Stickings, was admitted to hospital on December 5, and had his left leg amputated.
