J He said' these' men f had gone out and" had done their bit with the- best, and when the King came 'to announce from London;' that the war had been won. he would say,, "Thank Goodness, we had members of, the Star Football Club j with us." The returned members present * replied to _the toast, and were ' most heartily applauded. 'All said' they wero glad to be back'amongst tho old Club members again, * and s were ex-' tromely pleased to see such" a fine membership, and to know.'jithat tfie .Cluo had sustained its reputation as footballers. „ ''i -:7> " " ' Mr Groves said, the-men "who ,had returned had done, nothing ,to what the men at present at the l! front wereJdoing. They were having ~a- bad time in France, and -they that those at home could.do for-them.-Many people wore of the opinion that "conscripted men were not as' good fighters as,the voluntary men. They were"as good They had probably been kept, back by-some homo ties or other, and thev were as good as.thebest.
Tho principal toast was' followed by the presentation of the season's medals, which were" allotted as follows: — J. Cooke, best back, and „ A - Wyatt, best I forward, in senior competitions; , B. •Stapely.-'most improved back, and H. Percy,' best forward, in junior ' competition? ■ r - j } , The'medal winners /wer& then- toasted, and each returned - thanks. I "The
Coaches," .and "Kmdred Sports Clubs" were similarly complimented. During the evening a number of songs and other musical items and recitations helped to make the time pass agreeably, and after an appertising 'supper had been partaken of the gathering di&persed.
