MILITARY APPEAL BOARD.

MINERS 1 NOT EXEMPTED IF "GOSLOW" I>OLICY PROVED. (Per Press Association.) . March 31. ' ,At the sitting o± the "Military Appeal Board to-day, hearing evidence concerning !&ho reduction or the out- I put of mines, the Chairman, Mr J. S'. Evans, said tliat with regard ,to the exemption of miners tohe evidence showed thai; the "go-slow" policy was not iil vogbe at 1 Millerton mine, but was in. vogue a's Dennis ton, Westport and Stockton. The Board had already indicated its policy, and as the mine manager at Millerton had given an assurance thalc the policy did not obtain at Millerton these appeals would he adjourned sine die, as before, but on the express stipulation, that the appeals would be reviewed if a "go slow" policy were adopted, or the men were '.nreasonably and unnecessarily absentfrom work. ■ With* regard to "Denniston, the Board wished to give the miners concernedevery opportunity of reconsidering the position, and also tt> give more consideration Tto each man's case, than could be given hurriedly while the Board was sitting. The appeals from, Denniston, | Westport, and Stoeklton would be fur- i th.er adjourned, to enable the Board to j carefully check each man's case, and the miners will have a further • oppor-1 tunity of defending or justifying their positions, if such be possible, the Board wished to repealc its warning that it iiitpnded to carry out its riolicy, and refuse exemption,' unless the output j was kept up to normal. This would be a serioiis matter both for the country and -for the men, who would irrevocably become soldiers, if their appeals were dismissed. At 'the Westport and Stockton mine?, the evidence was clear that the "go slow" policy was in vogue, and tone extent and effect thereof was cohtiunea in detail in tlie statements r nd returns-of 'time, wages'and output, pubinitted by the managers, but the Board had not had an ooportmnit>v o>? going carefully into tbis detail*and not-icing the l'esultin each miner's case.
