RAILWAY SERVICE.

REDUCTIONS FROM MAY Ist. ONLY ONE EXPRESS DAILY. (per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 30. The Minister of Railways issued a statement, to-day dealing with the curtailment of the train service, the main < proposals for. which have been approved by tlio Cabinet, as follows. (1) That the 9.10 p.m. Wellington to Auckland and 12.40 p.m. Auckland to Wellington expresses be discontinued, and that the 8 a.m. Christchurch to Lnvercargill: and 6.10 aim. Invercargill to Christchurch expresses be run to lumeclin only. (2) That all Sunday tra'ins, including troop trains, with the exception, of the night express from Auckland" and ferry train from Lyttelton to Christchurch be discontimjfc'd. (3) That suburban trains be limited to services conveying passengers from home t*b 5 work and back, and lines, except, on Saturdays, be closed before 7 p.m., ho facilities for rail travel being given after that time. (4) That other timc-tablo trains between town, and country districts be reduced in number and time, and the hours of running be rje-arranged so xhat return journeys may be completed within 12 hours, as nearly as possiple. (5) That special trains for races,' sports, and agricultural shows be discontinued. (6) That holiday excursion tickets, week-end tickets,, and commutation tickets (workers' weekly tickets excepted), be cancelled. (7) That the availability of singf.e tickets be slcrictly limited to three days. r (8) That ■ the availability off return j tickets be limited to three days. This will simplify checking trains and reduce the work of accounting. (9) That the running of dining cars be discontinued, and meal intervals be arranged V L , suitable stations.
