■— '~ —.&. TIMARU MAYORALTY, MR GUINNESS NOT A CANDIDATE. s , . ,t i Considerable interest is now being evinced in the mayoral election tor 'limaru, which is to be held next month. The names of several probable candidates are freely mentioned, but no one has yet been definitely announced. Seen last night by a "Herald" reporter,- who asked him whether he would again be a candidate for tho mayoralty, Mr E. R. Guinness said no, lie could not see his way to do so. A.sked what had prompted him to make this decision, His Worship said that, his occupancy of the mayoralty made it necessary for him to neglect his own business., One of his four sons had, refrained from going to -the war in order to assist him in looking after h ; s j private interests, but this son was now in camp, and without him he could not I possibly attend to his own business and fill tho mayoral chair also. He had given the matter careful consideration, and had definitely made up his mind to retire.
