FARMERS' UNION
PLEASANT POINT BRANCH. A meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Monday. Present —Messrs G. Butler (president), "W C. Chapman, J. Norton, A. Sutherland, sen:, J. Murphy, G. J. Shepherd. J. Cleland, S. E. Talbot, J. E. Gardiner, W. H. Orhell, A. Sutherland, jun., F. J. Medlicott, J. Stewart, and A. Thore.au (secretary). Letters were received from Mrs W. Robinson and the Cleland family, thanking the branch for the expressions of sympathy passed concerning bereavements in their respective families. Mr A. Cleland tendered his resignation as a member of the committee, and of the executive. The chairman ex T pressed regret at the necessity of Mr Cleland's resignation (ill health being tho and eulogised the work which ho had done for the Society during his 20 vears' membership. Mr W: H. Orhell was elected to fill the vacancy on the executive, and Mr Cleland's place on the committee will bo taken by .Mr. A. J. Cleland. The Auckland branch wrote concerning granting freehold to occupiers, of national endowments. It was agreed that as the question was of great importance, involving nine million acres, consideration of it. should Ijo deferred. The chairman referred to the' brilliancy of headlights on motors, and intimated that the police had already prosecuted some owners. Reference was al«o made to owners of cars driving without lights, a more dangerous practice than having excessively brilliant lights. In regard to the Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance scheme, inaugurated in other centres, the chairman submitted several points of information and the matter was held over.
Accounts comprising" provincial levies and sundries amounting to £1 15s •id were passed for payment.
