AN APPEAL FOR FRUIT. FOR. NORTH SEA FLEET. SYDNEY, Dec. 29. Tho Premier has received an appeal from the London Products Committee for fresh or preserved fruit for* distribution to tho men of the North Sea fleet. MILITARY CENSORS. AND THEIR WORK, MELBOURNE, Dec. 29. A statement showing the principle of the military censor's conduct of the work was submitted to Senator Pearce, Federal Minister for Defence. He points out that the object of the censor is not to withhold information from the public, but to prevent it reaching the enemy. The ''Telegraph" criticising the, remark says one great cause of legitimate complaint.is that news is kept back in order not to excite alarm among the public. This is sheer folly, and the sooner it is stopped the better. THE NEW ISLAND POSSESSIONS. MELBOURNE, Dec. 29. Apia advises that a proclamation has been issued permitting German firms to trade with British firms in Australasia. The- Commonwealth takes control of tho ocean lighthouses from April 1.
