GERMAN SUBMARINES, TWO \ACCOUNTED FOR. Received 5.5 p.m., Nor. 15th. LONDON; Nor. 14. It is stated in naval and wireless circles at Dover that two German submarines that were recently carrying out daring reconnaisances in the Channel have been destroyed. The first saved power'■■by remaining on the seabed for a lengthy period. Bubbles were noticed on a calm day at the end of October; dredging vessels were hurriedly collected and- dredged the area with powerful chains to which explosives were attached. One heavy explosion resulted, followed by the rise to the 'surface of a large quantity of oil. The seoond submarine that had been troublesome to warships operatin£ around Nieuport was trapped into rising, under the belief that a stretch of sea was deserted. The ''Frankfurter Zeitung" says "We readily acknowledge that the attitude of the English respecting the Emden is just and dignified. An Anglo-French Note has been presented protesting against wireless installations in Ecuador and Columbia assisting the Germans. It states that the Gallapagos Islands are serving as a naval base. The Note is presented to Washington instead of Ecuador and Columbia because the Allies are desirous of scrupulously respecting the spirit of the Monroe Doctrine. GERMANS tN PERU. , Received 12.5 a.m./ Nov. 16th. LIMA, Nov. 13. Officers of the Leipsig and Dresden state that they did not participate m the Chili coast battle. Both have sailed. THE SYDNEY'S WOUNDED. MELBOURNE, Nov. 15. The Navy Office announces unofficially that the following information has been received from the manager of the Eastern Extension Company at Cocos: " The following" members of the Sydney's crew were wounded—Lieutenant Hampden, Seamen Butcher, Gascoyne, and Meldram." No other particulars ar e supplied. It is considered probable that these four were left behind at Cocos.
