HAYWARD'S PICTURES. There Was' a good attendance At the Lyceum last evening and the current programme has many features. There is always something above the ordinary in the ;week-end change, and Haywards have, participated to the full this weeik- The Gaumont Gr&ptaic contains many interesting pictures, featuring incidents in the Old Country) , mostly connected, with, the .war. A large squadron "of 'Grenadier Guards are shown oh the march, also Turcos, while part of the Japanese fleet is shown eh route for Kiau-Ohau. Red Cross Brigades are also shown at practice. "Crocodile Shooting" is a most interesting and beautifully coloured film, ! (showing spots on the Ganges. , "Ghost of Granleigb" is a drama of quite, an unusual character, witli many transition scenes, and* cleverly-worked spectral appearances. 'Fjords of Norway" is a remarkable and gorgeous fi-fii, of this world-famous scenic wonderland. "Bill's Job'' is the first of a Series of comedies, and if it is sample of what is to follow, patrons of the Lyceum are assured of many hearty laughs. The second portion of the gramme opens with a beautifully-col-oured ahd splendidly acted drama entitled "A Scoundrel's Chance." The setting of' the film is quite outstanding some parts being amid beautiful scenery, while the plot is a ihoSt exciting one. The star, picture is a burlesque entitled "Goodness Gracious," ahu for lovers of this stams of picture, the filhi is a most enjoyable one. The producers have gone to ho end of trouble ih placid the picture on the> screen, and it is replete with the manv ttlost amusing incidents. There is a fine strain, of humour throughout the picture, While the artists have vied With each other in creating the greatest mirth. The film Wis greatly appreciated by last night's audience. The orchestra throughout delighted all with then- excellent music, and added greatly to tihe enjoyment of the evening. v

The principal characters in the story are a bank maieger, hie son,, their faithful old man-servant, and his daughtew The manager's son causes much trouble by his reckless devil-may-care living, and is a source of much worry to his father. He gets mtd financial difficulties and attempts to rob the bank safe. • 'Old Reliable" arrives in time to save the son bringing disgt-ace on his faimily ahd advises lii™ to ne& at once. The manager is aroused and- entering the strong-room finds Old Reliable standing by ae open ea-fe. The picture appeals to all and is pleasing to witness. "Mack at it Again" causes the spectators to rock with laughter, and is a most versatile comedy. At a suitable juncture Mr E. Budd gave an excellent rendering of the latest patriotic «ong, Beraoni's "Good Old !New Zealand," which was received with hapturous applause. . The orchestra delighted all with their excellent playing. The destruction and devastation of the Germans can well be imagined from this film. BARTON BROS. CIRCUS. This popular amusement enterprise opens here on Wednesday night, with a programme which is practically . new, and replete with unusual attractions. Mr F. T. Barton, the senior member of the firm, recently returned from a long tour abroad, and hence; the freshness and extent of the programme which the firm now presents to the public. In a recent interview Mr Barton said—"l went abroad solely for the purpose of reorganising the show, and so keep faith with the public, and further add to our reputation.
