TEMUKA SCHOOL.
SIDE SCHOOL QUESTION. A deputation representing residents in the north end of Temuka took advantage of Mr J. S. Rutherford's visit to Temuka on Monday to bring before him, as chairman of'the Boaru of Education? the advisability of pur'i chasing a. site for a side school in the north -end of the town. Mr G. Levens pointed out that at present very young children had to walk a distance of one and a hair, two, and three miles to school. When the request for a side school wns test made to the Education Board, the names of. .about 100 children-, , who would attend the ' school 'were"'given, and the need was as great now as then... Since,- the matter had first been brought before the" Department the land' available as a site had risen in value, and the longer the purchase was delayed the higher the" price that would have to be paid. Mr A. E. Smith said that the five acres which it was proposed the Department should purchase as a site could now be had -for, £950. The price originally asked was £750. After several other speakers had been heard Mr Rutherford agreed to bring the whole matter before the Board, with a recommendation- that the Department be again approached for a grant. '
Mr Armitage, who was present, promised all the assistance Jie could give.
