WAIMATE BOROUGH COUNCIL
ORDINARY MEETING. The Waimate Borough Council met last evening. Present—Councillors inskster (Deputy-Mayor, in the chair), Jones, Hayes, Manchester, Evans, Sanders and Paul. The clerk stated that the receipts lor June were £2OB 15s lid, and the payments £387 17s 2d. Accounts for pajmen;. totalled £360 14s 9d, which would leave a. bank credit of £555 Is. The Council deeded to place the £6OO received lor the sale of the reserve to the High School Board, on deposit m the bank for two years at 4 per cent. '.I he Clerk was instructed to announce tlia:, after seven days notice, owners ot unregistered dogs will be prosecuted, and to ta.ke action against persons neglecting to compi.v with gorse not.oes. _'J'ho ratepayers' roll, prepared in View of the coining poll on loan proposals was laid on tuts table, and certi-fu-d. it contains 636 names. It was decided ro send to each ratooayer a eiicular 'setting forth the proposals. The action of the- Mayor in telegraphing to the Public Works Department a protest, against AY annate unemployed not being given a chance of employment, on the Wa-iliao railway extension was approved. Mr W. G. Poui, as secretary to t'hc Steward Memorial. Committee, wrote asking for a contribution to the memorial fund. On the motion ot Councillor Jones, who - reminded the Councd of ilie many benefits secured for Waimate by Sir William Steward, the Council voted £5 5s to the fund. Mr F. R. Denn:son anplied for and was granted permission to connect his garage with the stormwater drain.
An offer was received from a contractor to supply shingle, for streets, but it was decided to invite tenders.
Mr W. G. Paul, as secretary to the tion of a superannuation fund for borough employees, and it was agreed that the Clerk should obtain information to lay before the Council.—The Clerk stated that the late Mayor, Mr Francis, and he went into the matter, and found that no feasible scheme could be devised without Government help", and existing legislation did not provide for this. The chairman of the Beautifying Committe, Councillor Manchester, reported on the work, done in shaping and planting Victoria Terrace.. In this connection a vote of thanks was passed, to Mr GeddeSj of Oamaru, for gratuitous superintendence, and to Councillors Inkstei- and Hayes for gifts cf trees. Accounts, amounting to £360 14s 9d. were passed for payment—.'.reneral £329 12s lid, arid Ga s Company~£3l Is lOd.
