THE PLUNKET SOCIETY

ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 8. The annual conference of the Plunkej Society was continued in the Town Hall to-day, Mi's Algar Williams presiding. Dr Yalintine (Chief Health Officer) "was among those present. The first business was a. discussion regarding the relationship of the society to the State, which was taken jn committee.

Later, Dr. Valmtdn-o save the Society a,n assurance that tho position as between the Society and the Department should remain unaltered until the next annual conference. Ho also stated that, in future, the Health Department would communicate only with l\unket ■ Society Centres, not with its branches.

The following remit from Wahganu: was agreed to on tho motion of Miss Campbell:—''Nurses must pay their own training fee at the ICaritano Harris Hospital, and if they hold a position for two years," the training fee will be refunded to t'hem at the end of that time."'

_A Dunedi'n remit, "That Mrs Trilby King be elected joint general president, with Dr Truby King," was carried by acclamation.

At the Paink-et Society conference it was resolved that Dr/Truby King and Mrs King interview the Hon. B. H- Rhodes with reference to the relations -of the Society with the Health Department; that the branches contribute £1 annually towards the cost of tram ng each nurse employed by the branches, and also contribute towards the cost -of the hygiene column in the newspapers: that the Plunket nurses be paid £l5O per annum; that u future any nurse appointed as ssistant P'junke'i nurse must have a proper course of training at Karitane .iosp.tal; that as oho Plunket nurses :row receive £l5O per annum it is unnecessary for uniforms to be paid for out of branch funds; that the dress worn by the "Wellington nurses be approved as most _ suitable for the nursss of the Dominion. It was resolved to ask tho Governto subscribe towards the cost of training an extra nurso at Ivar'tane hospital for relieving purposes. A Karitane nurse is to ho allowed to act as assistant to the Plunket nurses, provided she lias the recommendation of the central council and thc< approval of the Health Department, at v. salary of _ per week and travolliu<r expenses (paid by the branch employing her). After discussion a resolution was passed that the delegates were str-on< y lv of oninion that 'the ' condition of niilk supply should be brought under tho nct'ee of the Government, with a. view to its improvement.

A considerable amount .oF routine business was- transacted and the Conference adjourned.
