ASHWICK FLAT.
(Fnoir Our Own Correspondent.) The Ashwielc Flat bachelors and spinsters have arranged to hold their annual ball on tlie 17th July, plain orfancy dress, witli a prize for best lady's and gentleman's costume. The arrangements are well forward, and the ball proimses to b"<? as successful as others held at the FJat. v Tho monthly school Committee meeting was held on Tuesday evening, when it was arranged to plant half-a-dozen fruit trees at the school house to celebrate Arbor Day. The Committee are of opinion that the trees will prove a Rood object lesson to the children, in demonstrating fruit growing. It was decided that the winter holidays (three weeks) commence- to-morrow. Friday, 10th July. Some pine trees that were sliad'ng the school house, the Committee decided to cut down, the chairman (Mr C. H 'Whatman) being authorised to- arrange for the cutting of the trees for the use of the timber. The chairman intimated that he had insured the school building for £250, the policy to cover the school when used for any purpose except picture shows.
