There was a large attendance of members, including tho chaplain, the Pev. Dean Tubman, Two brothers declared on the sick fund, and one declared off, mi 1 £5 1-ls 3d was passed as sick pay. Brothers JW. Father Holbrock ami .I'. .T. Xi'd lenv were appointed as this branch's de.egates at the half-yearly meeting to be held in August at Auckland. The quarterly balance-sheet. - which was read and adopted, showed that the branch was making splendid progress, both the funds and membership increasing in a very satisfactory manner. A member's application for a clearance to the Dunedin branch was granted. The following motion was carried unanimously—"That this .Branch of the Hibernian SocieLy strongly protests against the referendum for Bible reading in the State schools as urged by the I?ible in Schools League" ; and a'copy of the resolution is to be forwarded to the Prime Minister; It was decided to read an address of welcome to Hi? Lordship the Bishop, at the reception to be held- next Monday night, the members to wear their regalia, and for .this purpose the .members are to meet at the liall at 7.4-5 p.m. on Monday. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Bro. ~W. FiLzgera'ld: vice-president. Bro. M. liyli'ind; -secretary, Bro. P. Malioney; treasurer, Bro. J. Sullivan; sick visitors-,. Bros. M. Sullivan and J Shea; warden, Bro. C. A. "Watt; guardian. Bro. M. O'Connor; assistant secretary, Bro. M". Schanb: auditors, Bro. J. G. Venning and M. Hyland. Bro T. Niall, P.P., installed the new officers, and congratulated them oil their election.
A lieartv vote of thanks was passed to tli© ..retiring officers, and it \vav de'ficlecl to present the retiring president, Bro. Goulclinjr, with a Past President's rertificate, as a mark of appreciation of liis services while president of the branch.
