Quite a large number - have become proficient this winter. . To-night and foaturday riight the management are holding a Carnival for skaters in fancy or poster dress, and this promises to bo the most successful ever lield in Timaru. There will be a splendid display of dresses, some of the more enthusiastic skaters having been for weeks past engaged in and making original costumes, for the best of which prizes will be given. There will also be a programme of races for ladies and gentlemen, which, should prove interesting. Altogether the entertainment should be well worth attending. The doors -will be open at 7.15. Music will be supplied by the Garrison Band. Reserved seats may be booked at the Dresden. There will be the usual morning and afternoon sessions to-day. ' FULLERS' PICTURES. _An Australian newspaper is responsible for the statement that on account of the keen competition amongst picture showmen around Sydney, admittance may be obtained in some quarters for the despised empty bottle. Although Timaru lias not approached this, many local boyß sell a few bottles in order to provide the means of patronising the Saturday matinee. The memorial is a beautiful example of the sculptor's art, and the cost was largely contributed to V Now Zealanders. '"Joanna of Braganza" is a splendidly acted and perfectly staged drama. A re-issuo of an old Home story is " Tho Drunkard's Reformation," which, while be mg deeply pathetic conveys a great moral lesson. I u "The' Rapids of Magdapis" patrons are introduced to a delightfully coloured subject, and one that will please. "His Danciit?r" is an American BiograoJi pourtravnl quite up to this prominent maker's standard. One of th* finest comedies screened for some time is "Arises Finch and tfieir Nephew Tiillv."
