MISCHIEVOUS PICTURE SHOWS. I A deputation from the National Council of Women and other women's [associations asked Sir Beeby to legislate to regulate moving picture shows. Their requests included a strict censorship on lilnis, and that no children he allowed to attend without a guardian. They claimed that besides a general demoralising effect on their habits, many of the pictures incited children to crime, and also had an injurious effect on tho eyes. Sir Beeby stated that settool teachers had already, brought the matter under his notice. They reported that the shows created a great amount of unrulmess among the children. An officer of tho Children's Court also reported that the pictures were having a demoralising effect. Mx Beeby said he sympathised with the deputation's request and promised Government action after full inquiries. KING EDWARD MESrORIAL. The Lord Mayor has called a public meeting for Friday, for the purpose of launching a movement to perpetuate the memory of King Edward. Twentyfive members of the Highland Society have already promised £SOO for the fund."NE TEMERE." MELBOURNE, June 28. The Anglican Church has drawn up a pastoral letter dealing with the Ne Temere decree, which will be read in all Anglican churches on Sunday. He estimated that by 1914 Victoria would have closed 800 hotels and Now South Wales 425. Under local option there was a tendency in over-stocked districts to continuance. '. INDERAL MINISTER MARRIED. Sir Hughes married to-day a second wife, Sliss Campbell, daughter of the well-known New South Wales pastorallst. This is the third Slinister married since Mr Fisher's team took office. The Governor, in opening Parliament, announced that the credit balance at the end of Juno was £200,01)0, which would he used in reducing the public debt. The proposed legislation includes the purchase and control of wharves, railways to open tip the mailee, lands for settlement, adult suffrage for the Legislative Council, a a Bill for the settlement of deadlocks I between the two Houses, and an Arbij tratinn Act. The Government ini tend to establish brick works., and J wood yards to supply the public with ] firewood. A Supply Bill for half a million was 2iassed. Both Houses then adjourned till Tuesday, when Mr Peake moves want of confidence on the administrative acts of the Government during the ' recess.
