The debate on the National Insurance Bill was adjourned after a general expression of approval of the principle, subject to amendment at a . later stage. Mr G. N. Barnes says that the House of Commons Labour Party have some misgivings as to the continued efficiency of Trades Unions under the Insurance Bill. He. would support the second reading, but future action would he largely determined by the alterations made in committee. The Labour Party were unable to agree to the clause depriving Trades Unions of full control of the funds of the Labour Party. They would also insist that unemployed benefits be distributed through the Trades Unions. A JONAH IN THE SHIP OF STATE. The "British Weekly" says that Lord Loreburn's reckless and defiant appointment of Tory Magistrates is destroying the foundation of government, that he is the worst enemy the Government possesses, and that Mr Asq-uith must oast Jonah, overboard.
