Piclion, Minister of Foreign Affairs, replying in the Senate to critics of the usefulness of the Triple Entente deprecated the statement that the entente with England was unproductive, and that military ' matters had not been discussed during the past two or three years', and exclaimed, ''What do you know about it? Diplomacy is not carried on in public places." Ho affirmed in his own name and strength, that a declaration had been made to him on behalf of Britain that the entente was never more complete or more intimate than, to-day. He spoke similarly of the alliance with Russia,who fully informed France, prior to and during the Potsdam Conference, that whatever was the outcome of that Conference, there would be nothing to regret from the standpoint of the interests of France and peace.
