The Canadian Pacific- Railway Company's steamer Tesa is ashore at Bar'itev Sound, Vancouver Island. The fassengers have been rescued. BRISBANE, Jan. 28. Another unsuccessful attempt was made to refloat the Eastern. The position is now more serious. Tho passengers are landing and proceeding en 'their journey by train. The Ruahine will be detained for a jveek at Las Palmas for repairs. TWO SUDDEN DEATHS. >. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 28. A tragic oeeurrence took place at Prebbleton this morning. Mrs Easterbrook, a well-known, resident, was found dead in bed by her brother, Mr MeDjee, who resided in Christchurch but had been stopping at Prebbleton. McHree drove over to Lincoln to fetch Dr Cooke, who made the jurney to Prebbleton in his motor car. When Hearing Prebbleton the doctor, who was driving behind McTlroe, noticed him fall from his seat. The doctor stopped the horse, and upon examining Mcllree found that he was dead. Death was d lie in both instances to heart disease. Mr Mcllree was fifty-seven years of age.
