PARLIAMENTARY.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2 p.m. FINES AND PENALTIES. After dealing with Mr Hine's charges against a member of the Council, "The Attorney-Goneral moved the second reading of the Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill, which provides that where any person who is imprisoned for non-payment of a fine or in respect of default of sufficient distress to satisfy such line, pays any sum in part satisfaction of the hue, or of any costs and charges for wliich lie is liable, the term of his imprisonment shall be reduced ill proportion to the amount paid. The Bill was road a second time. The Stone Quarries Bill was further considered in committee, progress was again reported, and the Council rose. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to questions, Ministers stated, that it was impossible to say when the House would ho given au opportunity to adopt or otherwise the recommendations of the Timber Commission. That it is intended to. have the Wages Protection and Contractors' Liens Act, 19UH, revived during the recess, with a view to removing anomalies and inconsistencies from the same. That provision is being made in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Bill for quarterly sittings of the Oourfc in each of the four centres. The remainder of the afternoon sitting was occupied in discussing answers to questions.
