The agreement with the Otaejo Hoard in connection with the Palmerston ronsttmption sanatorium had been signed on behalf of the Board, and a patient, sent down. The patients were to he taken first lor three weeks for observation purposes, and if it were found at the expiry of that time that they were receiving benefit they would he allowed to temain. The patient sent from this district had now been there for more than three weeks so it was presumed | that liis was a curable case. CORRESPOXDEXCE.

The Timaru "branch of the Medical Association advised that- the hue Dr. Hayes had left a valuable collection of medical and surgical books for the use of South Canterbury medical nun, aud they asked the Board for u room in the Timaru Hospital in. which to house the. books, and to use as a meeting room. A Committee was set urj to see what ccnld be done. The AYaimate Hospital Trustees wrote that their by-laws had been approved by the Minister, ami asking

that the Hoard should bring them into force. —A motiou to this effect .vas passud.

The Temuka Road Board forwarded its third instalment for the year, amounting to £74. Holmes, Gilkison and White, solicitors of Dunedin, forwarded copy of agreement between the Otago and South Canterbury Boards in reference to the l'iilmerston Sanatorium, and uichisiug their account for £1 12s 6'd in connection with the drawing up of same.—Cheque forwarded. The Inspector-General of Hospitals wrote thanking the Board for so promptly complying with the requests he had made to the Board at its previous meetiiiji.

The Treasury acknowledged receipt if the sum of £o<K> from the Board or investment (together with the übsidy thereon) in Government conols. (I'liis sum is the Jackson beiiiest.) KF. POUTS. The matron reported the resignation of Xurso C.eaney. Mr Lyall reported on a vi<it of inspection he had paid to the several institutions under the control of the Board. Generally he found everything going on well. '.the Caretaker of the Talbot Hospital reported that there were two patients in the Hospital at present. One had been admitted., and two discharged since his last report. Tiie resident medical officer reported that the work of the Hospital was jtoing on as usual, a feature of the month being the reduced number of admissions. The out-patients' visits numbered 13-!. operations 13, patients in Talbot Hospital ;1. There were eleven ! patients in the Hospital who had been there over the regulation two months. CHARITABLE AID. A request was received for assisti ance in sending an old man who is ; ! uifering from sciatica, to Kotorua or ! Ilanaicr. I i)r. I The ease of a woman in Timaru who i recently lost her husband, and has three children to keep, was discussed, the woman asking tor assistance to Keep her children. It was stated that the woman has a. good house on which she has paid a substantial sum, and does not wish to lose it. The Board resolved to assist the applicant on condition that she makes over her property to the Board so that they can protect her interest in it. ACCOUNTS.
