Sir Ernest Shackleton, the leader of the Antarctic expedition, in the course of an interview said that Mr Bertram Armytn.c;, whose suicido was reported from Melbourne, was a loyal and zealous comrade, good in any emergency, and always ready for work. SYDNEY, March 15. Professor David pays a tribute to Mr Bertram Armytage, as one of the most fearless, conscientious and unselfish members of the Antarctic expedition. Mr Bertram Armvtage, who committed suicide at Melbourne on Sunday, was an Australian, who look charge of the ponies in Shacklebm's Antarctic expedition. With two others of the expedition he had a !i::rrow escape of being lost. They had cuiped on sea ice, and it broke away and floated oil with them, an<T when thev turned up they found two miles of open water between them and the shore Luckily the ice floe they were on drifted back to the land. It touched the fixed ice just long enough ixi allow them to jump off, and then went away for good.
