OBITUARY.

MR SAMUEL.BROWN. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 1-1. Mr Samuel isrown, a leading citizen of \i eiiuigton and representative of the employers in the Arbitration Court tor several years, <lied here tins morning after a brief illness. He was born in Ireland 04 years ago and had been in Mew Zealand for 4o years. He settled first at luvercargill, came to Wellington in 3864, and was for years a contractor on a large scale ana up to liis death head of the firm of S. Brown Ltd., Coal Merchants. He was a member of the City Council for several years, twice Mayor, and first president of the Industrial Association. Mr John O'Shea, City Solicitor, Wellington, was his son-in-law. The cause of death was an internal complaint. Mil R, T. SEARELL. INVERCARGILL, August 15. Mr R. Trist Searell, organist of St. Paul's Methodist Church, died suddenly on Saturday evening at a practice of the Municipal Band. He had just started to conduct the band whe he sat down and almost immediately fell back unconscious. A doctor was called in and lie pronounced lire to be extinct. The cause of death is believed to be heart failure. Deceased came from Christcbureh about three years ago and is well-known in music circles of New Zealand.
