CORONER'S STRONG REMARKS. Per Press Association. ■' GISBORNE, August 5. An inquest on the body of Ed* win James Norton, who was drowned in the Turangaiiui river, was held today. Deceased had been drinking heavily. A verdict of found drowned was returned. The Coroner (Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.) said the circumstances of the death were deplorable. Some, person was to blame, and lie urged the police to make, the fullest investigation.
SAILOR BREAKS HIS NECK,
PALMERSTON N., August 5. At Foxton last night it seaman belonging to the steamer Moa, name<l Michael. Loin's, met with a fatal accident. He was returning on hoard tho vessel after a day ashore, when he fell over the gangway into the water. Ha was rescued within two . minutes, but his neck was found to he broken. It is supposed that he struck the wharf in falling. He was slightly inebriated. A SUSPICIOUS DEATH. WELLINGTON, August 5.. ' The inouest on Harry Thompson, whose body was found in the harbour, was resumed to-day.
