At :\ meeting of the school committco last Monday night, Mr Saunders presided. In regard to the election of a member on the Board of Education to represent the Middle "Ward, it was decided to eireulah.se the committees with a. vfew to securing the return of Mr Maze. It was said that with the present representation the district was fairly served, but if another town member were elected Timal'll would have too many inetnbei's. It was decided to liold a euchre party and dance in aid of the Barclay Memorial oil Friday the 23rd inst., in the Technical School. Dr. Thomas examined eleven female pupils for St. John Ambulance certificates on Tuesday afternoon. George "Winter has been picked for the S.C. junior representatives as wing threequarter to play against' North Otago on Thursday next. South Canterbury football must bo on a down grade when the selectors are forced t-o pick a forward for the position of wing tlireequarters. M'e had a good crowd at Monday's stock sale, but prices were down considerabjy 111 sympathy with prices at Home. It was decidedly a buyers day. MrWestoby, oi jl' airviow, Duugut the late Bob. Cartwright's farm at Opihi, took it over on the 13th mst. Valentines pictures showed in the Oddfellows' Hall on Tuesday evening to a good audience. The pictures were very good, the songs were also well received .
Miss D'Arcy left the Point on Tuesday for England and France. She in.tends spending most of her time with relations in France.
A good start was made on Monday last towards the tri-weekly mail service from Timaru, when Messrs Crawford, Butcher and Cameron, waited oil those interested in the movement. The result was very gratifying to the committee, who hope to have > everything ready to call for tenders at an early date. »
During tho week the committee of the Caledonian Fancy Dress Ball held a meeting to make further arrangements. The Timaru Pipe Band have offered their assistance, and Coira's Band lias been engaged to provide music for the daueing The catering is in the capable hands of Messrs "Woodward Bros. During the evening Mr \V. Burns, of Timaru will dance some good Scotch dances. Tickets have been selling well. The society have offered prizes for the best fancy dress, and there is going to be keen competition for these.
