PLEASANT POINT.
(From our own Correspondent.) Some farmers in South Canterbury obtained a change of wheat last yea-c from Australia, and in the Pleasant Point district there is now to be seen some' particularly strong and healthylooking Australian velvet, showing well above the ground. At a meeting of the Pleasant Point Cemetery Board last week, the chairman stated that everything was in a fairly satisfactory condition. It was decided to procure lime for the borders, and to hold the annual inspection on August sth, at 2 p.m. The chairman was authorised to notify the person who had procured trees and cut them down, to have them removed at once. Accounts amounting to £7 -10s were passed for payment. A meeting of young men interested in the formation of a Debating Society, was held on Saturday last at Pleasant Point. Methods of making the Society popular were discussed at some length, and it was derided that those present slionld form themselves into a committee and make a canvass for likely members, and it was also decided to hold a meeting to elect officers next Monday evening, and afterwards have a mock election for Town Board. Foi>r or five residents will be asked to allow themselves, to be nominated, and to state their views' and answer questions. The promoters wish to make the Society a sucrose. , and urge that it is well worthy <•? support- of both old and young men ot the idstriefc.
