AMUSEMENTS.

SKATING. The popularity of the Kink continues unabated, and at the last session yesterday, both in tl\e afternoon and evening, there were- good attendances, especially at night; in fact, about a score of would-be patrons hau to merely look oil, as the early corners had secured the stock of skates. The management have, after a great deal of trouble, managed to secure a good many additional pairs of skates, wilieli should be here shortly, and it is hoped that 011 their arrival the trouble will bo obviated. For those who are beginning, the management suggestt l-hat the afternoons would be the most suitable time, for then the novices can have the benefit of the instructor's attention, more than is possible in the evenings.

WKST'S PICTURES. After an absence of a few weeks, the popular living jiicture enterLainliient touring under Die aegis of - that enterprising entrepreneur', _\lr West, has come to 'Jimaru. 'liie reputation of West's inctures rests on a firm basis, and it is certain that the quality ot' the display given at the Tlieatre itoyal last night, before a large and very appreciative audience, will do nothing lo lessen that reputation, for the iilms were up to the usual high standard insisted 011 by -Mr West, for his shows. Hairing one short stoppage, caused by something going wrong with the lighting apparatus, the performance went without a hitch lroi/i .start to finish, and the irequent and enthusiastic applause proved that tlie audience recognised that they were getting value for their entrance money, which they certainly did. Alter opening with a good comic, a very line pio turo of animals in a Continental zoo was shown, and then, lollowed a lilni entitled "The Invaders," based upon the now famous play, "An Englishman's Home." This picture was full of incident and action, and the happy eliding aroused the audience to quite .111 enthusiastic pitch. AlU?r a dra■inatie subject, called "The State Secret," had been sueeessiully shown, the weirdest comic of the evening,

-■flic .Monkey Alan.' caused astonishment and i)ni'isement. l'robably tin; best acted Jilui of the evening was the next picture, entitled •"The Hand," a very vivid and absorbing picture, acted bv masters of the art of dumb show. ' Alter a, comic interlude, a powerful subject was thrown upon the screen in the picture named "The Jester," which portrayed with' graphic and gruesome vividness the retribution which overtakes a dissolute prince who deeply wrongs his court jester. A fine picture of '-Moorish Cavalry" in action gave a good idea of Arab military Tactics, whilst two beautiful scenic films were ' A. Trip on a. Swedish Canal" and tin; ''Lakes of Killarney.' Other comics of an original and laughable nature were, 'On Roller SkaU-s," '•The Boating I'arly," "A I'oliceman for an Hour," and '"A Tripper s Troubles." This evening the company will appear again in ail entirely new change of programme, and a glance at the advertised pictures will show thata iisrt-rate entertainment will be provided.
