THE GOVERNMENT POLICY. Per Press Association. HASTINGS, May 18. The Hon. Mr MeKenzie received a deputation comprising tho Borough Council, Chamber of Commerce and Farmers' Union urging that attention be, given to matters.of importance in the district. '_ In the course of his reply the Minister stated that the Government did not intend to build elaborate stations and post offices, while the people in the bark blocks had to slush, through mud and hadno railway conveniences at all. He approved of a policy of closer settlement in Hawke's Bay, but the price of land had to be considered.
